Smith (American) awoke to the news they have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in physics for their invention of the CCD chip used in many digital cameras used today. They share the award with Charles Kao for his contribution of the future potential of fiber optics.
Interesting how the fiber optics of today carry many of the digital images we create.
