iPod as Monitor? YES!

Categorized Under: Product Review

Welcome to Red Pixel Media! In todays article we’re going to look at connecting your ipod/iphone as a separate computer monitor!

I was actually close to buying a small monitor that would sit next to my main display, however I wasn’t willing to pay +$250.00 for a small display I may just have contact lists or email’s on… so I wondered if it was possible to use my perfectly good iPod touch as a small side-display. Sure enough it is!

iPod as Computer Monitor

1. Download Screen Recycler.

2. Download VLC lite on your iPod (Or any working computer).

3. Run Screen Recycler and enter IP address it brings you into the VLC app on your iPod.

DONE! It’ll be  a small monitor! To increase speed you may want to read some of the instructions in the Screen Recycler’s ReadMe file.

Can’t get my iPod Touch to download VLC Lite. It says Safari cannot download this file. How do I get it on there? I have a small window I’d really like to display on the iPod while the laptop monitor shows other things.

Your picture above shows you using a Samsung main monitor. Is it connected to a Mac? I can’t find a version of Screen Recycler that will run on Windows Vista. Is there such a thing? Thanks.

I’d really like to use my iPod Touch as a small aux display for viewers who can’t see my main screen.

One more question — does this still allow the iPod to be used for its old purposes, or does it take over every time the iPod is turned on? Thanks.

Sorry, I’m not sure if there is a version on screen recycler for windows vista. The iPod will be running an app, so if you turn off the app to do something else then your screen will shut off. VLC Lite can be downloaded under your app store off the iPod.
