Welcome to Red Pixel Media! In today’s tutorial we will be focusing on layer basics in Adobe Photoshop. If you’re a master at Photoshop then I’d suggest moving towards another article because this starts from the ground up!

Most know we are avid Mac users here and with the recent introduction of Snow Leopard I thought I would share my experiences with the product.

I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro and iMac.

Firstly, the install went without a hitch.  No problems, hickups, or challenges what so ever.  Upon the install being complete, both computers easily boot twice as fast as previously.  I neglected to check out the disk space gained on the MBP but on the iMac I gained 11 Gig of space… yes 11 Gig.  In my over 25 years of experience in working with computers this is the first that I have ever installed a new OS or application and GAINED disk space.  Very impressive!   Apple claims the disk space was gained as a re-write and tightening of the code in OS X.  While I believe this is true, I also believe a significant portion was gained by Apple no longer supporting the PowerPC chipset and focusing exclusively on the Intel processor.

While I could comment on many of the technologies used in Snow Leopard I would be repeating many of what others have already said on the topic.  Simply google Snow Leopard and you’ll find all that you need to know… and then some.

Overall my experience with Snow Leopard has been very positive.  Every application (Lightroom, Photoshop, Printer drivers, mail, etc.) except Cyberduck continued to work upon reboot.  I installed the most current version of Cyberduck and voila it was up and running as well.

This OS upgrade is highly recommended.  You’ll be impressed by the speed performance gain and the stability of the OS.

Today William S. Boyle (Canadian) and George E. Smith (American) awoke to the news they have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in physics for their invention of the CCD chip used in many digital cameras used today.  They share the award with Charles Kao for his contribution of the future potential of fiber optics.

Interesting how the fiber optics of today carry many of the digital images we create.
